The New Orleans Pelicans can make a smart move by dealing Jrue Holiday to the Brooklyn Nets

As this NBA offseason begins to ramp up for the New Orleans Pelicans, there’s one move I think the team needs to make. As much as it is to the dismay of Pelicans fans, we’ve written that the team needs to find a suitable trade for Jrue Holiday.

I understand he’s been a great player, the ultimate professional, and a fan favorite but there’s no denying the facts. Jrue Holiday is entering his thirties, meaning that he doesn’t fit with the New Orleans Pelicans’ current timeline.

On top of that, he’s an awkward fit with the rest of the Pelicans’ young core. His average shooting stroke from distance is a problem for a team that lacks 3 point shooting in their starting lineup. The need for Holiday to play on-ball to be effective then limits the development of franchise point guard Lonzo Ball.

Those issues make keeping Jrue Holiday tough for the New Orleans Pelicans, especially when Holiday is too good to be coming off the bench. These points don’t even include the fact that Holiday’s inclusion on this roster impedes the growth of young players the New Orleans Pelicans have at his position like Josh Hart and Nickeil Alexander-Walker.

Luckily for the New Orleans Pelicans, there’s a team in the Eastern Conference looking for one last puzzle piece to bolster their run at championship contention, and I think Jrue Holiday could be that player for them. That team is the Brooklyn Nets.
