J.J. Redick is an attractive trade candidate for the New Orleans Pelicans in this offseason

3 point shooting is a premium in the modern NBA, that’s why the New Orleans Pelicans signed J.J. Redick this past offseason. In building around this young Pelicans roster, David Griffin felt like the team needed an excellent sniper to come off the bench and Redick is one of the best in league history.

That statement doesn’t even do Redick’s career justice when talking about his insane 3 point stroke. Consider this, J.J. Redick holds a career average of 42 percent from distance on an insane 1,884 makes from beyond the arc. Both of those numbers are top 15 all time.

That’s why he was an easy contract decision for the New Orleans Pelicans, and I didn’t judge the Pelicans for giving him a 2-year 26.5 million dollar deal this past offseason. So what Redick’s 36 years old, he’s asked to do two things run off screens and shoot.

Even though I didn’t fault the move last offseason, and I think highly of Redick, I think the New Orleans Pelicans should move on. This young Pelicans team is still building and with depth at their guard position Redick’s value can fill an area of need for them.

A spectacular shooter on a 1-year deal in a year where 3 point shooting might matter more than usual thanks to NBA bubble concepts, Redick will be attractive to many contenders. If I’m the Pelicans, here’s three teams I’d move J.J. Redick to.
