New Orleans Pelicans: A trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the #5 NBA Draft Pick

The Cleveland Cavaliers will potentially be involved in a lot of action on draft day. They are not good but do have some interesting pieces.

Obviously Kevin Love will continue to be the focus of trade rumors, but his contact and diminishing production might make it hard to do without including a sweetener.

There is some amount of fit here, depending on what direction the Cavs want to go.

This would certainly shake up both teams, but there could be some mutual interest.

The Cavs get a shooting guard to pair with Sexton, and with Andre Drummond on board, that is potentially a playoff team in the mediocre Eastern Conference.

It would also allow the Cavs to get out from under the Kevin Love cloud. Love was feuding with his young teammates this season and clearly unhappy. The Cavs would get a project in NAW and still get a pick in the lottery in this draft. They would also get one less year of contract, as Love’s runs a year longer than Holiday’s.

The Pelicans would have to love the idea of Love and Zion Williamson, which might work, but would force Love to defend centers, which he can’t really do. Would Love and #5 be enough to move Holiday?

Would the Pels want to take a risk on Love’s declining years?
