New Orleans Pelicans: 2 Stars who’d become the team’s Jimmy Butler
By Nick Alvarez
These two players can become the New Orleans Pelicans’ own Jimmy Butler if the team acquires them this offseason
Take a minute to imagine just how good the New Orleans Pelicans could be by adding one more All-Star. What do you see? If you’re asking me, I see a team that could be a top 4 seed in the Western Conference and potentially make some noise in the playoffs.
Now you might be thinking that the Pelicans team I envision with one more star player sounds like this year’s Miami Heat and that’s because it is. This season, the Miami Heat leaped from 39 wins to the NBA Finals thanks in large part to their stellar addition of Jimmy Butler.
I recently wrote that if you look at this year’s New Orleans Pelicans squad then you’ll see many similarities to that 2019 Heat team. My argument is that trading for a superstar could fast track the Pelicans path to contention just like it did for the Miami Heat.
The question is who is that superstar? See, when the Heat added Jimmy Butler, they didn’t just add an elite talent, they added a leader with the moxie needed to command a championship contender.
For the New Orleans Pelicans to make a similar leap like Miami, they’ll need to add a star who’s not just a baller on the court, but a team leader as well. With that being said, here are the two stars that I think the Pelicans can acquire that’ll capture that same intensity.
