Doc Rivers is out, but the New Orleans Pelicans still have options.

The New Orleans Pelicans are taking their sweet time finding a coach.

There was some speculation that they were waiting for the bubble to burst so they could have their choice of remaining assistant coaches.

The only person who has received any interest thus far is Doc Rivers, who was promptly hired by the Philadelphia 76ers.

There are some rumors that the Pelicans intend to interview Tyronn Lue but so far not much else has leaked from David Griffin’s camp.

I’m not really sure what the Pelicans are waiting for or why they are behaving as if they have endless time. If they end up hiring someone who was not in the Orlando bubble, there are going to be questions as to why it didn’t happen sooner considering the NBA Draft is just around the corner.

For that matter, training camp is just around the corner, so the Pelicans need to get a coach.

If they end up hiring someone who is coaching one of the remaining two teams, then this will make sense, but if they don’t, the Pelicans have wasted a whole lot of time that the new coach could have been spending getting to know his new team.

Rivers was my first choice once he became available and it seemed for a minute like the Pelicans’ indecisiveness may have paid off.

But now that he is off the board, they are going to have to get this going in earnest. The Pels admitted last week that they had not even begun the formal interview process. Well, it’s time to get to work.
