New Orleans Pelicans: A trade with the Indiana Pacers

Trade with the Indiana Pacers

There has been a lot of smoke around a trade with the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers are a perpetual four seed, Victor Oladipo is unhappy and they are likely to shake things up before next season.

This trade tries to relocate Oladipo, give the Pelicans something they need and reset the Pacers with a chance to win now and in the future.

This trade would shake up both teams, give a change of scenery to Oladipo and potentially help both.

The Pacers get Oladipo’s replacement in Jrue Holiday plus a young, talented center in Jaxson Hayes who replaces Myles Turner. They also get a first-round pick for their troubles, a sweetener for taking on an extra year of Holiday.

The Pacers would still be a playoff team next season but would be getting some youth to build around in Hayes and the pick.

The Pelicans get a rim protector and floor spacer in Myles Turner who is a nice fit next to Zion Williamson for the long-term. They also get one year of Oladipo and if he works out, he could be part of the future core, but if he doesn’t, they will have loads of cap space in 2021 to add another impact free agent.

Oladipo has been battling injuries, so it would be a risk, but he is an All-Star talent when healthy and this trade would make the Pelicans much better defensively.

The Pelicans may have to give up more to get both Oladipo and Turner, but they are both a fit in New Orleans for the present and future.
