The New Orleans Pelicans should get involved if there is a trade of Chris Paul to the New York Knicks.
The New Orleans Pelicans have the right combination of young players, veteran contracts and draft assets to be big players this offseason.
With a roster that needs more depth and balance, trading away one or more of their veterans might be the only way to get it, as the Pelicans will have very little money to splash around in free agency.
There are plenty of deals to be had around the NBA, especially if the Pelicans decide to move on from All-Star guard Jrue Holiday.
The problem with moving Holiday is that the Pelicans won’t want to take on equivalent salary, especially if those deals go beyond Holiday’s, as the whole point in trading him would be to free up cap space.
Ideally, the Pels could move him to a team with cap space, or get involved in a three-team deal so they can take back less money or fewer years while still getting good value for Holiday.
Enter the New York Knicks.
A recent rumor claims the Knicks are keen to acquire Chris Paul, but the fit isn’t quite there.
The Knicks don’t have the players to make it work but they do have the cap space, so the Pels could get involved as a facilitator in a three-team deal while picking up some nice assets in the process.
The Knicks are desperate to make the playoffs and OKC Is desperate to get a nice return for Chris Paul while staying relevant in the Western Conference. The New Orleans Pelicans have the assets and players to make their dreams come true.
