Assessing the four teams that could give the New Orleans Pelicans the best trade package for Jrue Holiday

As we all know by now, some bombshell news dropped for the New Orleans Pelicans yesterday. That news was a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania that stated the Pelicans’ front office was actively shopping former All-Star Jrue Holiday.

In all honesty, we should’ve seen this coming. Rumors already suggested that the Pelicans shopped Holiday at the trade deadline during this past season, and he’s an aging shooting guard on a team whose time for contention is still a few years away. So, now what happens?

That part’s pretty simple, the Pelicans will entertain offers and hope that a contending team who’s ready to win now can offer them an enticing trade package of draft picks and players. What that package looks like could take a couple of different forms given the roster status of different contenders.

Some contending teams are still relatively young and have some players that the New Orleans Pelicans could develop with the rest of their young core, other teams have older veterans who could plug some of the team’s holes. Of course, all of these teams have at least some draft capital that factor into the mix too.

That’s why I’ve taken the liberty to look around the league at every team who could be contending in 2021 to compile the four teams that I believe could give the New Orleans Pelicans the best trade package for Jrue Holiday. Keep in mind that I’m not structuring a deal for Holiday in this list and not every asset mention will be included in specific trade packages. This is just a ranking of which teams have the most to offer, so let’s get into it.
