New Orleans Pelicans trade rumors: Devin Booker for Jrue Holiday makes sense

Why the Pelicans would do it

This is a no-brainer for the Pelicans.

If they are going to trade Jrue Holiday, getting back a young superstar who hasn’t even hit his prime is the ideal return. The only thing that might be better is trading him to a team with cap space so they can reap future rewards down the road.

Yes, they’d be giving up future draft picks, but who cares? The Pels already have plenty of youth and draft picks, so they can afford to part with them.

A “Big 3” of Zion, Ingram and Booker would be the best scoring trio in the NBA and they are all around the same age.

A lineup of Lonzo Ball, Booker, Ingram, Zion and Jaxson Hayes (or free-agent center) would be dynamic offensively, potentially the best in the NBA.

This trade would also clear some cap space for the Pelicans, which they could use to grab an impact big man in free agency, so they can cure a lot of their roster problems with this deal.

Adding a superstar at any position is always an easy call, so the Pelicans would definitely listen to this one, even if they had to throw in some additional draft assets.

If the New Orleans Pelicans can turn their veteran contracts and draft assets into a proven superstar, they have to do it.
