New Orleans Pelicans: 3 team trade with the Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics

Trade #2

According to Stein, the trade could involve multiple teams, so we looked at one team that is desperate to move up in the draft, the Boston Celtics.

It is a poorly kept secret that the Celtics are willing to move their picks to move up in the draft to select Onyeka Okongwu or James Wiseman. Here is a trade that could allow them to do it:

This is just a hypothetical but it gives an idea of what a 3-team trade might look like. In this one, the Pels are giving up Holiday and the 13th for an impact center, an elite shooter, the 14th pick in the draft and a TON of cap space.

The Celtics get to move in the draft by just giving up Thies and the 14th, while the Hawks get the defensive guard they want to pair with Trae Young and still get a lottery pick for Kevin Huerter and the sixth pick.

The Pelicans would be able to fill two holes, still have a lottery pick and pick up around $19 million in cap space that they could use on one or two impact free agents.

The Celtics give up little to get the pick they want and the Hawks get their guy without having to move out of the lottery completely.

There are many options for the New Orleans Pelicans when it comes to trading Jrue Holiday and all options should be on the table. But if they can take back two rotation players, stay in the lottery and clear cap space, they should jump at a trade with Atlanta.
