New Orleans Pelicans should pursue trade with Hawks for Kevin Huerter
The New Orleans Pelicans are a trade match with the Atlanta Hawks and could pry away Kevin Huerter.
The New Orleans Pelicans‘ roster is pretty much set after the addition of two-way big man Will Magnay and power forward Wenyen Gabriel.
Both are young, unproven players but add some potential depth to the Pels’ rotation, possibly making forward Nicolo Melli expendable in a trade.
The Pels also added Willy Hernangomez as additional protection, so should be much deeper at power forward and center than they were last season.
The Atlanta Hawks also have a position of surplus after adding shooting guards Kris Dunn and Bogdan Bogdanovic, moves that might have made sharpshooter Kevin Huerter available in a trade.
Is there a potential match?
New Orleans Pelicans: A potential trade with the Atlanta Hawks for Kevin Huerter
The Hawks are deep at shooting guard and could send one of them packing for more depth at the forward position.
Here is a trade that works for both teams:
In this trade, the Pelicans get a 6-foot-7 shooting guard/wing in Kevin Huerter, who would provide quality backup depth to both Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Ingram.
Huerter is an above-average shooter, knocking down 38 percent on six attempts per game for the Hawks last season.
The Hawks get back stretch-four Nicolo Melli and a future second-round pick. Melli makes slightly more than Huerter and isn’t as young, so the Pels are paying a tax to get the better player.
It might take another second-round pick to tempt the Hawks, but who cares? The Pels have plenty of picks and second-rounders aren’t that valuable.
So who says no?
