The newest members of the New Orleans Pelicans are quickly getting acquainted with the city they’ll call home

The newest members of the New Orleans Pelicans have been slowly making their way to the Crescent City for the start of training camp this week. And they’re quickly getting up to speed on the city they’ll call home.

First-round pick Kira Lewis, Jr., arrived last week and has already had promotional photos taken.

He had said on draft day that while he’s been to Louisiana before, he’s never been to New Orleans. He’ll likely lean on his former coach at Alabama and New Orleans native, Avery Johnson, for some tips.

Lewis is just one of the newest members of the team who will be fast-tracked into settling into the city and getting in a groove very quickly before the start of the season.

Although he’s not the newest member of the team, Sindarius Thornwell has not spent time in New Orleans as a Pelican, having been signed during “bubble season” in Orlando. Based on a recent social media post, he has been welcomed to the city with one of New Orleans’ most interesting assets: our streets.

It’s really a special moment when you are driving down the street and have to swerve back and forth just to avoid those famous potholes. Admit it, we’ve all been there.

While some of the team is likely used to the unique driving skills needed to navigate the streets of the Crescent City, they are definitely going to need to share their tips with the “new guys”.

Training camp kicks off this week, and we’ll be getting most of our observations on the practices from the very few journalists allowed into the sessions, thanks to Covid-19 protocols. While that takes place, we’ll be hanging on to every Tweet, TikTok, and Instagram post made by the players and coaches to get any glimpse we can into what the season has in store.

In the meantime, here’s hoping Kira, Sindarius and the rest of the newest members of the Pelicans learn the best routes to avoid the worst streets along with the great hospitality that New Orleans is known for.
