Looking at how Steven Adams is endearing himself to the New Orleans Pelicans’ fanbase

The New Orleans Pelicans’ newly acquired center, Steven Adams is already enduring himself to the Crescent City fanbase.

During his first media availability as a Pelican on Tuesday, Adams said he is not only a basketball player but he’s a representative of the city he plays for. He said the main thing is that he, as a player, is representing the city’s history as well.

And with that one statement, he is already jumping up the list as a favorite for the NOLA faithful.

Other big takeaways from his press conference include the fact the New Orleans Pelicans aren’t exactly “rebuilding” but building something with some “great talent, great young players, some good vets” along with the new coaching staff.

“Steven is as selfless a teammate – and as ferocious a competitor – as there is in the league,” David Griffin said on Monday during his media availability with new head coach Stan Van Gundy.

Adams has already signed a contract extension with the Pelicans, telling reporters today that he did so because it’s an exciting team and he’s looking forward to learning from Van Gundy. He called Van Gundy an “old school guy” and he feels like he can learn a lot from him.

“My brother Moses is an absolute basketball nutcase, and just loves him so much,” Adams said about Van Gundy. “He called me last night and said ‘oh bro, Stan Van Gundy is amazing’. He’s just a smart, savvy dude.”

Adams said he’s looking forward to getting more acquainted with the rest of the players in the coming days as individual workouts are starting with group practices kicking in over the weekend.

If you haven’t seen the full video, it’s definitely worth your time.

The more we hear from Adams, I’m pretty sure the more jerseys we’ll be seeing with his number around town. His likability off the court is already evident and, as Pelicans fans know, his fierceness on the court will be fun to watch once he gels with the rest of the team.
