The New Orleans Pelicans still look like one of the best offensive teams in the NBA under Stan Van Gundy

Let’s talk about that stunning preseason the New Orleans Pelicans just had. Some people thought that the Pelicans might show flashes during the preseason, but no one thought that they’d come out looking this dominant this early under new head coach Stan Van Gundy.

A lot of the attention for this dominant play has rightfully gone to the defense. Stan Van Gundy stated he would spend most of the starting days at training camp installing his defense, and that method seemed to work. That’s how the Pelicans beat the Miami Heat, 114-92, and followed up that win by smoking the Milwaukee Bucks 127-113.

So yes, the defense deserves a lot of credit for what it’s been able to do this season, but what about the team’s offense? A lot of fans looked at those scores and were drawn to how low the opponents were, but I look at those scores and think how high the Pelicans scored.

See, that was one of Stan Van Gundy’s biggest question marks when he came to New Orleans, would he offensive system be good enough to keep the Pelicans humming like they did last season? Or was it too bland and predictable?
