Zion Williamson can be a franchise icon for the New Orleans Pelicans similar to Tim Duncan.

The New Orleans Pelicans are hoping they’ve got the next Tim Duncan in Zion Williamson.

Duncan’s name has been in the media the last few days because some genius had the gall to suggest that Anthony Davis is the superior player.

Let’s pump the brakes a bit. Duncan is an All-Time great, possibly the best power forward ever and has fingers full of rings.

Davis is a crybaby who whined his way off his original team to join forces with the greatest player of all time. The equivalent would be if Tim Duncan went to join Kobe Bryant on the Lakers. He might have gotten more titles but his legacy wouldn’t be the same.

Davis is great, but he’s no Duncan for many reasons.

There are few players who stay with one team for their entire career, which is why guys like Kobe and Duncan will always be more loved by fans than guys like Kevin Durant or even LeBron James, both of whom had to flee their original teams to win a title.

Zion Williamson could be that guy for the New Orleans Pelicans.

New Orleans Pelicans: Zion Williamson could be franchise’s Tim Duncan

When Giannis Antetokounmpo signed a max extension with the Milwaukee Bucks, it was good news for the Pelicans and Zion.

Giannis is one of the first superstars to stay with the team that drafted him, and this is a big deal considering they are a small market team.

Hopefully, this showed Zion that you can have success and make huge money in a small market and you don’t have to chase it in Los Angeles or Miami.

Zion is a humble guy from a small southern town, which may make him more inclined to stay in New Orleans, where he will be revered without the hassle of living in LA.

If so, he could pay his entire career with New Orleans and become a Tim Duncan-like icon in the process.

If Zion Williamson plays his entire career in New Orleans, his number will be in the rafters and he’ll be the first name associated with the team.

There are few modern players who can say that.
