The New Orleans Pelicans chances against the Dallas Mavericks will come down to three guys.

The bad news is that the New Orleans Pelicans have started the season 4-5, but the good news is that they are just a game out of first place in the southwest division and can tie it up tonight against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Pelicans have lost three in a row in frustrating fashion, as each game featured a blown lead in the second half.

The Pels’ starters have been great at building leads that their bench is even better at blowing.

The Pelicans obviously need more from their second unit, but the game against the Dallas Mavericks will still come down to the starters.

Here’s what we need to see from Steven Adams, Lonzo Ball and Zion Williamson.

New Orleans Pelicans: Key players vs. Dallas Mavericks

Will Steven Adams play?

Steven Adams is listed as day-to-day with a migraine according to the Pelicans’ injury report.

Adams has been the most consistent Pelican thus far and the team generally falls apart defensively as soon as he leaves the game.

If Adams has to miss any amount of time, the Pelicans are in deep trouble, as Jaxson Hayes is the only backup center who has seen action this season.

WIlly Hernangomez is ready for action if he gets called upon, but he hasn’t played so far, which brings up some questions about the Pelicans’ offseason.

Dallas will potentially be missed four players due to COVID restrictions, including Maxi Kleber, so this could be a big game for Adams if he is cleared to go.

Steven Adams has been the glue of this team so far and the Pelicans don’t have a lot of options if he’s not available.
