The New Orleans Pelicans need both Lonzo Ball and Nickeil Alexander-Walker to play well.

As an American, I’ve been privy to some dumb debates in my time, but the Lonzo Ball vs. Nickeil Alexander-Walker argument is one of the dumbest, especially when the New Orleans Pelicans are 4-7.

On one side, you have the adamant fans of Lonzo Ball, who will not be happy unless he is the only one who touches the ball, scores or gets any positive attention.  Some of them are extremely obnoxious, yes.

On the other, you have the Pels’ fans who are sick of the Lonzo fans and use them as a reason to dislike Lonzo Ball even though he has done nothing wrong.

Both groups tend to overlook things because of their bias, so I have to see Pels’ Twitter devour itself over two guys who are on the same team.

You want to know who is better between Lonzo Ball and Nickeil Alexander-Walker? Do you want to know which one is a “better fit?” The answer is they both are.

NAW has had a couple of good games and suddenly the running narrative is that he fits the team better than Lonzo and may even be more talented.

This is largely because NAW has been aggressive taking the ball to the hoop and looked to score first, things Pels’ fans have long wanted Lonzo Ball to do.

But the Pelicans still lost both of the games NAW started, mostly because, wait for it, THEY ARE NOT A DEEP TEAM.

The Pelicans’ bench is atrocious, with Nicolo Melli and J.J. Redick playing minutes they have no business playing.

In other words, the Pels need both Lonzo Ball and NAW to be good. Do you really think this team has enough depth to care about this silly debate?

If NAW continues to play well, who knows, maybe he’ll be moved into the starting lineup and Lonzo will go to the bench. Maybe Lonzo will stay the starter and NAW will become the primary bench scorer that the Pels have lacked.

Either way, they are both good players and the Pels aren’t in a position to bicker about which one is better because they need them both.

In fact, I’d really like to see Lonzo and NAW play together, as their skills complement one another.

There is no reason to worry about which one is better or which one should start because the Pels desperately need all the help they can get and it’s all hands on deck.
