The New Orleans Pelicans probably weren’t that unhappy when they heard their game against the San Antonio Spurs was postponed.
According to ESPN, neither team had the required eight players after both teams were potentially exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
There is no indication that anyone from the New Orleans Pelicans has tested positive but the league is being extra cautious with contact tracing, which is a good thing.
The Pelicans have already had one other game postponed and it probably won’t be the last, as the NBA tries to navigate this pandemic without a bubble.
The Pelicans were already trending downward before this, but if any of their guys have to miss time? This season might be over.
New Orleans Pelicans: Schedule and Injuries
I wrote that the next six games could determine the course of the season for the New Orleans Pelicans.
One of those games has already been postponed, but it could potentially be much worse for the Pelicans.
The Pels are not a deep team, which is a huge understatement. In fact, when I first heard they didn’t have eight players I couldn’t help myself:
Pelicans: We don't have 8 players.

NBA: COVID?
Pelicans: Ummm, yeah, *cough* it's COVID all right!
Let’s face it, the New Orleans Pelicans could use the day off, but if any of their guys have to miss games? This season could be doomed.
As I said, there is no indication of a positive test for the Pelicans but if Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram or any of the other Pels’ starters have to miss time, they have little chance of winning.
The Pels are already in a deep hole in the Western Conference, but if any of their rotation players are ruled out, it could get ugly fast.
Let’s all send good vibes to the Pelicans as they try to battle both their own poor play and a pandemic simultaneously.
This season has been bad enough, let’s hope it doesn’t get worse.
