New Orleans Pelicans: Should the Pels trade for future assets?

Sell!

The New Orleans Pelicans are very talented but they are not ready.

Their two best players are 20 and 23. Jaxson Hayes is still 20. Lonzo Ball is 23, Nickeil Alexander-Walker is 22 and rookie Kira Lewis Jr. is just 19-years-old.

Did we really think this was a playoff team?

Talent is obviously important but it takes time to learn how to win in the NBA, so the Pelicans should be patient.

They already have a treasure trove of picks but they can add even more by trading JJ Redick and Lonzo Ball.

If they could find takers for Nicolo Melli, Eric Bledsoe or even Josh Hart, then all offers should be explored.

If the Pels are not a playoff team then there is no reason to trade away picks to get a guy who might not get them there anyway.

The Pels can be patient, build through the draft, keep collecting assets and then make their move when the time is right.

If the Pels start winning or continue to lose, then this argument will be easier to settle, but there are good reasons for the Pels to be active at the trade deadline either way.
