The New Orleans Pelicans could make a suave move by trading J.J. Redick to the Boston Celtics

For New Orleans Pelicans fans, what’s happening behind the scenes with J.J. Redick is no secret. After being named in trade rumors at the beginning of the week, the 36-year old shooting guard has found himself on the bench.

That’s caused us here at Pelican Debrief to believe that Redick has probably played his last game as a Pelicans. Today, the Atheltic’s Shams Charnia (subscription required) seemed to make that theory more of reality by reporting that New Orleans is offering Redick to a few Eastern Conference contenders.

In his report, Charnia noted that the Boston Celtics could be one of those teams, and that idea intrigued me the most. Unlike some of the East’s other contenders, the Celtics are still a young team with some high upside targets on their roster.

It got me thinking that maybe the Pelicans can find a diamond in the rough by making this suave trade:

In this move, the Celtics would acquire a veteran shotmaker in Redick who’ll instantly improve their woeful bench while the Pelicans acquire a could of young pieces who could make an impact in Stan Van Gundy’s system.

Let’s dig deeper into this one, and look at why each team makes this trade.
