The New Orleans Pelicans have been largely disappointing this season which is just one of the reasons that they need to unleash Kira Lewis Jr.

The rookie has played sparingly so far this season but has flashed positive signs. He has elite quickness and can get into the lane at will.

He is also not afraid to do so, which is more than I can say for most of the Pelicans’ guards this season, who prefer to camp at the 3-point line and fire up bricks.

Lewis Jr. poured in another ten points in ten minutes of mop-up duty against the Houston Rockets, scoring just three points fewer than Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who played 33 minutes and took eight 3-point shots. (Puke)

The rookie has done everything right so far and deserves more minutes. Here’s why.

What do they have to lose?

This season has been a disaster for the New Orleans Pelicans and it is mostly because of their inconsistent guard play.

The season is certainly not over, but the way it is headed, it will be soon. The New Orleans Pelicans are 14th in the West, though they are only three games back of the 8th seed.

Luckily, most of the teams in the West have started slowly or the Pels might already be buried.

It’s time for the Pelicans to see if an injection of life can help turn their season around. If not, at least get the young guy some reps, as they aren’t going anywhere right now anyway.
