The New Orleans Pelicans played their best game of the season against the Phoenix Suns, winning 123-101 behind some stellar defense and a huge game from Zion Williamson.
The Suns were red-hot coming into this one, so it was a nice win over a good team that the Pelicans can hopefully build on.
It was probably the only game this season where the Pelicans played well in every quarter, as they usually start out hot before blowing it in the third.
Not last night, as the Pels played tough team defense, moved the ball and had their best win of the season.
Here are the grades.
New Orleans Pelicans vs. Phoenix Suns: Grades for point guards
Lonzo Ball was great once again last night, hitting open shots, moving the ball and playing tight defense on Devin Booker.
I thought he was the victim of some bogus whistles that got him into foul trouble and it was clear that the Pels were a much better team when he was on the floor.
Lonzo Ball’s role on this team is no longer to rack up the assists, as he had only one last night, but instead to be the third scoring option, which he was, dropping 18 points.
Don’t look now, but Lonzo has been shooting the 3-pointer much better as of late and looks to be getting back to his pre-bubble form.
CRAZY THEORY: Lonzo Ball is not the problem. In fact, the Pels starting five can match up with just about anyone. The Pels have been bad because they only have one reliable bench player. It’s not because of “fit” or Bledsoe or Adams’ spacing. It’s because they have the worst bench in the NBA. FACT.
