The New Orleans Pelicans hope to get back on track vs. the Dallas Mavericks after a disappointing loss to the Chicago Bulls.

The Pelicans had won four-in-a-row and looked poised to turn their season around before running into a red-hot Bulls team that couldn’t miss from behind the arc.

Both teams will enter the game with losing records but their recent play has given some room for optimism after each got off to a slow start.

Things are turning around in the Western Conference and the two teams find themselves just two games out of the final playoff spot after winning streaks.

The team that wins tonight will be in the driver’s seat for a better season, which is just one of the big stories to follow when the Pels and Mavs face off in Dallas.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Dallas Mavericks: Which team is for real?

The Pelicans have won four of their last five games and the Mavericks have won three-in-a-row, which will be just one of the narratives to follow in this game.

The Pelicans have won six of their last ten behind a surge from Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball and better bench play.

Inserting Willy Hernangomez and Kira Lewis Jr. for Jaxson Hayes and Nickeil Alexander-Walker has been the big difference in the second unit, as Hernangomez has been solid and Lewis Jr. has done a great job of taking care of the ball and setting up teammates.

Dallas’ surge has come behind Luka Doncic, who has stepped his play and looks more like the perennial MVP candidate we expected him to be.

Something will have to give tonight in Dallas and the team that gets the “W” will move ahead in the standings and re-establish themselves as a favorite to make the playoffs.

It’s just one game but it is symbolic of the season and both teams’ renewed hope.
