This bargain-bin deal with the Toronto Raptors could help the New Orleans Pelicans too

Trade #2 – Sindarius Thornwell and picks for Terrence Davis

This deal isn’t as sexy as acquiring Norman Powell, considering it’s not giving the Pelicans a starting-caliber shooting guard, but it can help the Pelicans fix their other weakness, their bench.

The Pelicans bench is god-awful right now on both ends of the floor, and it’s part of the reason why their record is what it is, so why not add a talented prospect in Terrence Davis?

Still just 23-years old, Davis nails 39 percent of his 3-point shots, and has already proven to be a quality catch-and-shoot scorer for the Raptors second-unit. However, I think the Pelicans could steal him with a deal like this:

Now, you might wonder why the Raptors would give up on Davis at his age, and the answer to that is pretty simple. Davis is one of the only players on the Raptors who could net the team serious draft capital who isn’t apart of the team’s core.

Also, Davis is scheduled to be a restricted free agent next season, making him a risk to get hit with a pricey offer-sheet Toronto doesn’t want to match. I think the Pelicans would happily take on that burden if he can become a steady rotational player for them.

Definitely not the trades that many fans are dreaming up for the New Orleans Pelicans before the NBA trade deadline, but these are certainly a pair of moves that can make this team better. I personally love the idea of Norman Powell as an under-the-radar target, because I think he’d be perfect in Stan Van Gundy’s system. Now it’s time for us to wait and see how the Pelicans actually decide to approach this deadline!
