The New Orleans Pelicans push to the playoffs begins today. However, we cannot overlook what happened last night during the NBA All-Star game.

The New Orleans Pelicans currently hold the eighth spot in a close-knit Western Conference playoff race. The next two months will be exciting and nail-bitingly suspenseful for Pelicans fans. The Pelicans are a bubble team in it’s purest form at this point of the NBA season.

Last night, Anthony Davis played in his fourth NBA All-Star game. It would be difficult for Davis to top his 52 point performance from last season.

But, he managed to do just that, in a completely different way. When the players took the court, Davis wore the number 0 and honored his teammate DeMarcus Cousins with his All-Star jersey.

This jester of good will and brotherhood from the New Orleans Pelicans All-Star is something that should have been applauded and magnified more than it was.

I realize that everyone will be talking about more sensational stories the day following the All-Star break, but, Davis shows us what it means to be a real teammate.

After the game, Davis spoke to reporters and the first question was about wearing Cousin’s jersey.

"I just wanted to go out there and support him, I know he wanted to play. You know this is his first time as a starter. I wanted to kinda make that come true and pay my respects. – Anthony DavisI just wanted to go out there and support him, I know he wanted to play. You know this is his first time as a starter. That’s the mark of more than a teammate. That’s the mark of a friend, a brother, someone who has your back in this league. We all know Cousins went through some trials and tribulations during his tenure in Sacramento. There were times that the narrative surrounding Cousins was critical. He’s been referred to as a knucklehead, a hot-tempered player, and a walking technical foul.

However, this season, you didn’t hear the negative narrative surrounding Cousins that you did in years past. Cousins behavior this season is comparable to when Rasheed Wallace joined the Detroit Pistons after rough stretches with Portland.

Despite the vocal tones concerning Cousins, he still manages to put up great numbers. Numbers, that earned him a starting nod in this years NBA All-Star game. However, due to his season-ending injury, he wasn’t able to go.

So, with Cousins being a free agent at the end of this season. Does what Davis did last night mean anything to Cousins? Of course, it did.

The New Orleans Pelicans may have something more than wins and losses. They may have two superstar players that truly enjoy playing together. Far too many times in the NBA we’ve seen two dynamic players that demand trades or leave during free agency.

Most recently, we watched the saga of Kyrie Irving demand a trade out of Cleveland. Before that, we watched as Kevin Durant left the OKC Thunder for Golden State.

Next: A Fan's Perspective

Many fans will wonder if Cousins will return to The Big Easy following this season. I think it’s safe to say, that Cousins will give the New Orleans Pelicans strong consideration. You can’t put a price on brotherhood.
