Ian Clark – Unrestricted

Should he be brought back?: No

An unrestricted free agent this summer, Ian Clark is a name that you can expect the Pelicans to move on from. The 27 year old shooting guard is on the older end of role players that New Orleans would want in a rebuild, and he just doesn’t add enough value anywhere to justify a new contract at his current age.

Clark is a shooting guard that can’t really shoot. At least, not as well as he needs to in order to keep his minutes on a team that is starting over. For his career, Clark is a 44% shooter from the field, and 34% from three point range. In 2018-2019, he shot well below his career average in both of these areas, which is a bad sign considering it was a top three season for his in terms of minutes per game.

The bottom line is, the Pelicans were able to give Ian Clark a bigger role than any of his three previous teams, and it hasn’t led to better value. Because of all of this, expect David Griffin to pass on bringing him back to be a part of the new era in NOLA.
