New Orleans Pelicans: Lonzo Ball on Zion and the Art of the Alley-Oop
Lonzo Ball of the New Orleans Pelicans joined the J.J. Redick podcast to talk about fame, clutch plays and what it’s like to throw lobs to Zion.
Lonzo Ball was a guest on a recent episode of the J.J. Redick podcast on the Ringer. Ball talked about going from the Lakers to the New Orleans Pelicans, being famous and what it is like to throw lobs to Zion Williamson.
They touched on a wide range of topics and Ball was an interesting guest, whether he was talking about fictional coaches or what it might be like to play against his brother LaMelo Ball.
One of the best parts of the podcast came when Lonzo Ball talked about what it is like to throw alley-oops to rookie Zion Williamson.
The two have only played 19 games together, but in case you forgot, this is what it looks like:
Lonzo was quick to give the credit to Zion, saying,
"“I really just aim for the corner of the backboard…really, as you know Zion is probably going to catch it no matter where you throw it. I really just try to get it over the defender, cause I know he’s (Zion) going to get higher than him.”"
Lonzo then got into the intricacies of the spin-out lob and how to read the position and timing, but once again he gave all credit to his 19-year-old teammate. Here’s Lonzo breaking it down:
Redick was obviously impressed with the answers and talked about some of the plays he’s run with big men in his career.
Lonzo has spent a lot of time in the media in his young career, mostly through no fault of his own, and that has given him the poise to be an articulate and fascinating podcast guest.
With the NBA on hiatus, we’ll probably be seeing more of Ball in this format and it might not be long before he has a podcast of his own.
We at Pelican Debrief are happy to bring you coverage of the New Orleans Pelicans during the hiatus.
We miss hoops too and appreciate your continued support. Take care out there!
